Overview
If your application was denied, you will receive a Notice of Adverse Action (NOAA) that explains the reason or reasons for the decision.
The NOAA is the best place to start. It includes important details about why your application could not be approved and, in some cases, information on how to address the issue.
Common reasons applications are denied
Most denials are not permanent and are often related to one of the following:
- Incorrect personal information
Make sure you entered your full legal name, date of birth, Social Security number (SSN) or ITIN, and current address exactly as they appear on official records. - Credit report freezes or fraud alerts
If your credit report is frozen or restricted, new accounts cannot be opened until the freeze is lifted. - Identity verification issues
In some cases, we may not be able to verify required information during the application process.
The specific reason for your denial will be listed in your Notice of Adverse Action.
What to do next
If you believe your application was denied due to an error, the NOAA may include contact information to help you resolve the issue directly.
Because denial reasons can vary, the best next step is to review your notice carefully. If you still have questions or aren’t sure how to proceed, our Support Team can help.
Helpful to know
- A denial does not necessarily mean you’ll be denied again in the future
- Many issues can be corrected, such as updating information or removing a credit freeze
- Reviewing your NOAA is the fastest way to understand what happened
